What a fabulous day it was to cruise through the Quebec countryside. Today we particpated in Day 1 of the Candian Ski Marathon. The temperature at the 6:00 a.m. start was - 18C and rose to -13 C during the day with bright sunshine.... very chilly ... fabulous trail and well groomed for classic ...

Now it is wax time for tomorrow which will take all our attention for at least 5 minutes ... lights will go out at 9:00 p.m. ... breakfast at 3:00 a.m. ... bus to the start at 5:00 a.m. ... then a sprint off the bus to the propane heaters (temp will be -19C) ... and 30 minutes later it will be ALLEZ ... we will see how tomororow works out ... another 80 km with some wicked wicked climbs followed by harrowing downhills through the narrow hardwood forests of the Canadian Shield.

Hope all is well at Whaleback ...

GO Dan and Greg

Hi Jacko and friends back at Whaleback ... we are here at the dorm in Papineauville and getting things together for the start of the Candian Ski Marathon ... met Anne Marie Bougeois from Kippens this evening and she was very happy to see some of the WB gang. Tomorrow will be a klister type of day ... not Dan and Graham and Dan`s type of ski day ... and it sure is a long 80 km marathon skate to Montebello ... But such is life! Time to find a piece of gym floor as wakeup call comes at 3:00 a.m. for breakfast and then aboard the bus fro Buckingham 30 km to the SW.

Salut from Quebec! GO

Hi Graham:
I was boasting a little about the skiing here in Waterloo in my previous guestbook entry. I guess it was just too much for poor Jacko and he dumped me out. Much the same as he did one time when we were in a neck and neck race with only one track leading to the finish line with me in the lead of course. Ha ha!!! I forgive you, Jack. I won't have Don Cormier put you in a " headlock ", unless it happens again.
Seriously, the skiing is great here now and I have been out trying to keep in shape just in case I get back to Whaleback. I had a good chat with Carter a while back and he updated me on all the news. Hope you get lots of snow and enjoy the skiing.
Bye for now;
Hubert

Admin reply: All lies, I tell you , it was an H..accident really . And besides , who's afraid of the big bad wolf they call the Chief!!

Jacko

What's this Jack! You torched the emails from Hubert and Clarence. And I didn't even get a chance to see them! What odds Jacko! I hate hearing old Whalebackers crying about wishing they were back here skiing with us. I kid you of course ... I'd love to share a cup of hot tea with Clarence and Hubert in some back country grove, or for that matter even have the boys pour a cuppa for us in at the pentagon. What stories we'd all have to tell. I am sure there's a lot of trail that's passed under Clarence and Hubert's feet since they left town. They are certainly missed.

Glad to see Ruth Forsey has been back out on the trails ... Ruth and friends from PAB have become regulars at WB. Wonderful to see vsiitors drop in.

Hmmmm ... Jacko, haven't heard a peep from Missy Emily Whats-er-name who hails from down your way. She must have her nose in the books or she's off playing badminton in Harbour Deep or someother exotic shuttlecock destination.

See You on the Trails,
GO

My apoligies to Hubert and Clarence for deleting their messages . In my haste to convert the site over for the 2011 season , we lost your enteries . My fault..... somebody get a rope ! And I was just telling Graham we had new messages. Heartbreaker , sorry boys but many thanks for thinking of us over the holidays . We have just begun to get started for the season in the last couple of days . Not a lot of snow , but enough to start. Take care , and don't be afraid to send us another note . I promise to leave the next one alone.

Hello Jack-Isabelle here. Great to see you ski-joring with Tanner! Looks like everything cam together? Now..if your your learning curve is anything like mine, there've been some interesting crashes...I recall once instance where my dog made a tight turn a narrow trail--but I did not.

Happy t(r)ails!

Admin reply: Hey Isabelle, just back from Alberta , visiting the kids and working like a slave. Glad you dropped in on the site .It's amazing ,but ski-jors must all have the same experiences to one degree or another, because I do well remember that tight turn you're talking about ,and I'm still smarting from it. Very interesting sport, we'll have to get together next year and swap stories. Have a great summer and thanks again for posting.

Listen here Missy Emily .... the bog collapsed underneath me, what was I to do? While Dan was close at hand and tried to assist,I shunned his advances and arose under my own steam. Fall down ... what are you thinking of my child! Now I did fall twice this year on the trails and what wicked wipe outs they were .. once on deadly descent and once on Yellow Birch Hill on the Snowy Owl ... the latter mishap occurred in the loppet and I just missed being skewed by Paul Green who was tight on my tail. But Emily, with the agile of a bobcat I leapt to my feet and got underway without causing a pileup. Falling down on a mini-backcountry tour ... I should say not! What are you thinking of? Your eyes deceived you! Great to having you along on the tour Emily .... but next time you must bring cookies!

Your buddy,
Graham

A great big hello to Allison and Emily !! Great to hear from some young people for a change. Allison you better not tell Bruce Legrow you're running a 100 km a weeek or he'll definitely try and recruit you for his Race to the Sea team. And Emily , if you only knew how many face plants I've done this past week , you wouldn't be picking on those two old curmudgeons. All the best!
