About the Town:
Stephenville is a modern progressive town featuring several shopping centres, a prosperous
downtown shopping core, with a number of fast food franchises as well as local restaurants. The
town has bountiful recreational facilities including the Regional Aquatic Centre, Arts and
Culture Centre, Stephenville Dome, Bowling Alley and the West Coast
Training Centre. The town is internationally known for its very active night life. We are one of the few
towns that can brag having an airport within a 10 minute walk of the downtown core.
About Whaleback Nordic:
Whaleback Nordic embarked on its humble beginnings in 1968. Since that time we have hosted
the following prestigious events on numerous occasions:
- the Provincial Championships,
- the
Provincial High School Championships,
- The Newfoundland and Labrador Masters
Championships
- the Atlantic Biathlon Championships,
- the Provincials
- the Newfoundland and
Labrador Cross Country Ski Marathon.
In addition, we offer a Jackrabbit Program, instruction
for beginners (usually on the weekends) and night skiing to an enthusiastic membership of 300
plus.
Our chalet is humble, but
warm and hospitable and is presently staffed by volunteers and paid staff.
The membership of Whaleback Nordic look forward to seeing you on our trails.
About Our Trails:
The trails at Whaleback Nordic are undulating with several sections that can be classed as
moderately taxing. Skiers will be afforded an enjoyable ski with no vomiting lanes on our gently
ascending hills.
Whaleback usually gets an abundant annual snowfall. You can expect to find
new snow conditions with temperatures between -2 to -8 C; unfortunately these ideal
temperatures cannot be guaranteed.
