"The Definitive Snowshoer"

Snow-Walking
at the Whaleback

edited by Clarence Pelley

Yep. That's right. Snowshoes have finally become an acceptable way to make a good impression at the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club! And you don't need spandex. Nope. You can look as good as B***e L****w or as bad as C***n S***h. Don't make not a snowflake of a difference.

Fasten the rawhide-strung bent-birch frames to your logans or cinch the kevlar-decked-aircraft-aluminum-crampon-fitted hi-tek snowwalkers to your 40-below Gert Boyles. Beef-bucket lids if you prefer! Any way you like it - get out and have fun in the snow!

The Whaleback now has trails dedicated to the snow-walkers. A coup d'état indeed! Several kilometres have been stomped. The snow is good and the air invigorating. There may even be a few places to boil the kettle.

Get out on the trails. You may run into a few old skiers who use the snowshoes once in a while. You will certainly catch a glimpse of more than a few young skiers as they flit along the ski trail. But you won't find a better bunch of sports with whom to have fun in the great outdoors!
